My favorite wedding article from SLATE.com, which perfectly captures the tension between wanting a nice, reasonable wedding and getting sucked into the cash-cow bridal industry. Definitely worth a read!
From “Budget Bride” florist, here’s a cute and CHEAP Save the Date option.

What You’ll Need:
- Color Paper or cardstock ($3.99 to $5.00 per pack, depending on how many you need— a pack of 50 sheets is likely more than enough!)
- Access to a black and white printer (or a Staples or Kinkos; printing will likely cost about 16 cents a page)
- A hole-punch ($3.49 max at any office or craft store, if you don’t already have one)
- Pair of scissors OR a large paper-cutter (available to use at Kinkos)
- Ribbon of your choice ($1.00 - $2.00)
A bit of time and a word processor!

Total D-I-Y S-T-D cost? $10 for supplies and an extra 20 cents per sheet. Much cheaper than having them printed professionally.
Keep an eye out— more Save the Date projects to come shortly!
An article on the outrageous cost of weddings(… not just now, but in the future)from Jezebel.com
My story is just one story and my ideas just from my brain/what I can find, so here are more digital places to check out for wedding, DIY, and bridal budget ideas!
Enjoy!

Welcome to Penny-Wise Wedding! This blog is a bride-to-be’s attempt to give ideas and advice to those who (like me) are currently planning a wedding and feel overwhelmed by the “industry” of it all. On wedding message boards, often people are concerned about price but note “there’s just no way around” paying the prices expected. Other sites focusing on crafts and DIY weddings often assume a certain level of experience… I just found myself looking at a DIY save the date tutorial which expected that you owned your own letter-press. Hey, if you do, that’s fantastic— but I’m fairly sure that most brides out there trying to save money on their wedding just DON’T.
I’m not an economist (heck, I make mistakes with grade-school level division half the time). I’m not a wedding professional. I’m just a girl, with a blog, who wants to say “Hey! That’s $100 you don’t have to spend and here’s an EASY way to make or buy a cheap (but still nice) substitute!”
On this blogs, you’ll find suggestions for great buys, links to and instructions for EASY do-it-yourself projects, and overall thoughts, advice, and anecdotes for saving money on your wedding. I’ll be doing most of these myself— so I’ll let you know how it goes!
